November Development Update
Hi people! It’s been quite a while since the last blog post, so let me update you on what I’ve been working on! I’ve been a bit busy with school stuff sadly… but I’ve still managed to get quite a lot done on the project, so let’s get into it :)
Throughout October and November I’ve been working on the third chapter of the game. It’s all about stealth mechanics, so there are searchlights, guards and lots of dark areas. It’s perhaps a bit odd to add a bunch of sneaky levels into a puzzle game… But I tried to incorporate all three character’s abilities and making them kind of puzzle-ish while also having some tense bits.
There is one big thing left in the third area: a boss at the very end. I have already started a bit on it… but I had a really hard time making it fun. With the previous boss (That frog guy I showed in a previous post) I decided to take the easier route by making it very reflex-based and not rely on any individual character. This feels a bit cheap though, so for this boss I really wanted to make something more fitting for the game: a puzzle boss. Turns out those are tricky to design… and having three characters doesn’t exactly make it easier :/ I decided to just leave it for now and move on to the next major area of the game while I figure out what I want with it (I don’t want to code something that ends up being boring or doesn’t fit the game)
Also, if you’re wondering when the game will release roughly… My current plan is to have it done by April 2020. It’s just a rough estimate, I really have no idea how long the final polishing stage will take.
Oh, and, the steam page should be up real soon! I haven’t started creating the store page, but luckily I’ve already done all the setup work for a previous game I made. Together with that a full trailer for the game will also be released! You should be able to add it to your wishlist at some point in december :D
The reception for the demo has been quite good actually, and a few let’s plays have been made of it (They’re so much fun to watch :D). Here’s an awesome one by Cryptic Hybrid!
That’s all for now! Make sure to follow me on twitter to see - WAIT A MINUTE. Oh yeah, my twitter account was deleted XD. Like a total idiot I decided to change my birthday and month so it was correct (I didn’t change the year) but twitter was like AHAH! WE JUST REALIZED YOU CREATED THIS ACCOUNT BEFORE YOU WERE THIRTEEN! Therefore we need to ban you!..? So for the time being I’ll be using the Escape from Life Inc account to post everything. Make sure to follow it as I will be showing some cool vids of Chapter 4 soon!
There’s also a small discord server for the game where you can leave feedback for the demo. I also post updates there in case you hate twitter or whatever!
